Meet Chomp
Underneath the flickering light of a single bulb you will find a door that will transport you into a wonderland of delight and nervous laughter. This is Chomp, a new locally-owned Denver bakery.
Far rom your average bakery, Chomp specializes in creating custom creature cakes. Dig into their daily offerings of nightmare inspired confections.
The team, led by owner and head pastry chef Ida Baker, strives to add a ghoulish twist to the childlike joy of these sugary delights.
Finding Our Voice
After completing the intake questionnaire and meeting with the team to discuss the mission and message of the bakery, we created a list of key takeaways:

The Mission
To mirror the adrenaline and joy of a scary movie in confection form – bringing friends together through fear and fun.
The Inspiration
We wanted a brand look that paid homage to the classic movies that began the creature-feature genre while having a clean, modern feel. The monsters of film from the 1930s – 1950s had a tangible quality while still holding an air of campy entertainment.
These movies created an atmosphere where you could hold your friends close for comfort one moment, and laugh at yourselves the next.
We did note that during this time period gender and racial inequalities were depicted in these films. The Chomp space values diversity, and is an inclusive and safe space for all.
Logos
We began by creating an icon that combined the overall message of the bakery; fear, fun, and cupcakes. Then we created a word-mark that combined a classic serif with monster movement qualities and large counters for a clean modern feel. Finally, we combined both elements into a badge with additional brand messaging.
